A pitchfork-wielding man was arrested after allegedly vandalizing vehicles and challenging people to fight in Salinas on Friday night, police said. Anthony Carter, 35, was arrested after officers responded at 8:39 p.m. to an area near San Angelo Drive and San Bruno Way, according to police. Officers were told by residents that Carter was vandalizing parked cars, yelling profanities and challenging people to fight, police said.
Officers encountered Carter on the sidewalk as he held a pitchfork and appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to police. Carter reluctantly dropped the pitchfork, but then allegedly reached into the front of his jacket while walking toward a nearby residence, prompting officers to deploy a police dog on him to subdue him, police said. Carter was taken into custody and, after being treated at a hospital for minor injuries and symptoms associated with chronic methamphetamine use, was booked into county jail on suspicion of vandalism, resisting arrest and being under the influence of drugs, police said.
