Police are investigating a residential burglary in which the resident returned home and followed the suspect as she fled to a nearby homeless encampment in San Leandro Sunday afternoon. Police responded to the burglarized residence in the 15200 block of Upton Street at about 12:58 p.m. The resident told police she returned to her home and discovered that it had been burglarized. She noticed a woman outside her home, wearing the victim’s clothes.
The victim told police that she followed the suspect to a nearby homeless encampment near the intersection of state Highway 238 and Hesperian Boulevard. The victim told police that the suspect attempted to hide the stolen property. Police responded to the homeless encampment and identified the suspect as 28-year-old, Tiffany Waters.
Police located the victim’s purse and cash taken during the robbery. Waters, a transient, appears to have gained entrance to the home through an unlocked rear door. Waters also left behind her clothes in the victim’s residence, police said.
