San Jose police are advising pedestrians and motorists to avoid the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue because they are investigating a suspicious package in the area. Police said that at about 12:48 p.m. today they received reports that there was an unattended dark-colored Samsonite brand suitcase near a bench in the plaza of a shopping center at 1165 Lincoln Ave.

They said they then evacuated neighboring businesses, including an outdoor farmers market. Police said Lincoln Avenue is closed to pedestrians and motor vehicles between Willow Street and Meredith Avenue and the San Jose police bomb squad is now at the scene evaluating the package.
