A woman who police say was killed by her longtime live-in boyfriend in Orinda on Tuesday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 56-year-old Evangeline Devera. Someone called police to report the murder at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday. Orinda police officers arrived and located 62-year-old James Collin, who told them that he had killed his girlfriend, according to police.
Devera was found lying face down in a pool of blood in the kitchen of the home the pair shared in the 600 block of Moraga Way. Results of an autopsy conducted Wednesday indicate that Devera died from blunt force and sharp force injuries to the head.A sheriff’s office spokesman on Wednesday declined to say what type of weapon was used in the slaying. Collin was arrested Tuesday and is being held in county jail in Martinez on $1 million bail. Contra Costa County prosecutors are reviewing the case and had not yet filed charges as of late this morning.
