Six girls who were victimized through prostitution were recovered in Oakland late last week as part of a nationwide enforcement action, law enforcement officials said at a news conference in Hayward this morning. FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael Gavin said the efforts in Oakland from June 20 through June 23 also resulted in the arrests of seven pimps and 61 adult prostitutes.

Of the six girls who were rescued, four were from Oakland, one was from San Francisco, and one was from San Rafael, Gavin said. He said the juveniles who were recovered will now be given support services aimed at permanently removing them from prostitution. Gavin said the Oakland effort was part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative, a partnership between the FBI, local law enforcement agencies, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Nationwide, 79 children were rescued and 104 pimps were arrested in 57 cities, Gavin said.
