Police are trying to identify a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Sonoma late Tuesday night, Sonoma Police Chief Bret Sackett said. The woman, who is 20, was on the sidewalk at Andrieux and First Street West around 11:12 p.m. when she heard someone behind her approaching at a rapid pace, Sackett said. She thought it was a jogger and moved aside, but then a man grabbed her in a bear hug and fondled her, Sackett said.
The woman fought off the man, who then ran away, and the woman went home and called police, Sackett said. Police are trying to identify the attacker, described as a man with a stocky build who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head, white shorts or boxers with a blue plaid pattern, and white tennis shoes, Sackett said.
