* Juvencio Madriz-Garcia Modesto resident arrested after traffic stop when stolen gun found

A pistol discovered during a traffic stop in Petaluma early Monday was reported stolen in Nebraska nearly five years ago, police said. Petaluma police Officer Jason Jucutan pulled over a suspected drunk driver on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Kastania Road at 12:30 a.m. The driver of the white Chevy sedan, identified as 25-year-old Modesto resident Juvencio Madriz-Garcia, consented that the officer could search his car during the stop.

The officer discovered a loaded pistol in the center console that Madriz-Garcia said he had been using for target practice with a friend in the hills, police said. Madriz-Garcia was arrested and taken to the police station. A records check suggested the gun had been stolen from a sporting goods store in Lincoln, Neb. in October 2007.Police said that there is no indication that Madriz-Garcia new the gun had been stolen, but the investigation is ongoing.
