A man who was fatally shot near Oakland’s Garfield Elementary School on Sunday night was identified today as 26-year-old Malique Parrott. Police said Parrott died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported in the 2200 block of Foothill Boulevard at about 10:50 p.m. The Sunday night shooting was one of a number of shootings that occurred throughout the city over a 12-hour period on Sunday and early Monday.Around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, two people were shot in the 1600 block of Church Street.
Several hours later, at about 4:30 p.m., another person was wounded by gunfire in the 2300 block of East 23rd Street, police said. Early Monday, officers responded to a shooting around 12:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of 73rd Avenue, where someone had shot a person sitting in a vehicle. That victim drove to a hospital for treatment, according to police. At 1 a.m. that day, police received reports of a shooting near the intersection of Dimond Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, where another person in a car was shot.
Then, less than 15 minutes later, yet another shooting was reported in the 800 block of 66th Avenue.Police have not released additional details about Parrott’s killing or the other shootings. All of the other victims are expected to survive.
