A woman bystander was shot in the leg when a fight in Antioch erupted in gunfire on Thursday night, police said. Officers found the wounded 31-year-old Antioch resident near the corner of Sycamore Drive and Mandarin Way shortly before 8 p.m. Police learned that two groups of people were arguing in the street when at least two of the people opened fire.

The suspects fled before police arrived. The woman did not appear to be involved in the fight but was standing nearby and hit by a stray bullet, police said. Police searched the area with assistance from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s helicopter but were unable to find any suspects. The victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
