A man who died in a triple shooting in Richmond’s Park Plaza neighborhood on Tuesday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 23-year-old Caleb Smith. Smith, who was a Richmond resident, and two other men were shot in the 4600 block of Overend Avenue around 5 p.m., Richmond police Lt. Bisa French said. The gunfire activated the city’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system.

Smith was transported to a hospital, where he died Tuesday night. The other two men are expected to survive, French said. Police said a red compact car similar to a Toyota Corolla with four black males inside was seen leaving the scene of the shooting, but no further suspect information was available this morning. French said that “even though it was daylight hours, we didn’t get very much cooperation” from potential witnesses.
