An Oakland man was arrested this week after he allegedly made a grab for a child in a San Leandro movie theater photo booth, according to police. A boy and a girl, ages 8 and 5 years old, were in a photo booth at the Century 16 Bayfair Mall on Tuesday around 11:45 p.m. along with their 21-year-old aunt when the incident occurred, police Lt. Jeff Tudor said.
As the photos were being taken, a man opened the curtain and allegedly reached into the booth as if he were going to grab one of the children. However, when he saw the aunt inside with them, he walked away toward the movie theater exit, Tudor said. When the aunt and the two children left the photo booth, the man again contacted them and allegedly made a threat toward the aunt, who called police.
San Leandro police searched the area and located Maurice Hastings, 55, in the theater parking lot. He allegedly refused commands to stop and was detained and searched by multiple officers, Tudor said.Hastings was ultimately arrested on suspicion of annoying and molesting a child, resisting and delaying a police officer and possession of a device to smoke a controlled substance.
