A teenager who attempted to rob a San Ramon jewelry store at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon was fatally shot by someone inside the store, according to police.Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday at Gold N Treasures located at 2550 San Ramon Valley Blvd., San Ramon police Lt. Dan Pratt said.
Arriving officers learned that four men had entered the store, which was occupied by employees and one customer, and attempted to rob it. One of the robbers was armed, police said. One of the victims produced a handgun and shot the armed man, 18-year-old Kibrom Bairu, of Hayward, according to police.
Bairu and the other three suspects fled, and the Bairu staggered over to San Ramon Valley Boulevard in front of the store, where police arrested him. The teen was taken to San Ramon Valley Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police said the other three robbery suspects remain at large and the case remains under investigation.
