A man was shot and wounded while throwing a party at an El Cerrito motel on Saturday, police said. Police interviewed the victim at a hospital at around 1:30 a.m. along with several witnesses who had transported the victim there, police said. The victim had been throwing a party at a motel in the 6000 block of Potrero Avenue and an argument broke out, police said. The suspect shot the victim during the argument and then fled the scene.
The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been released from the hospital. After investigating at the motel, detectives identified Christopher Deshawn Nelson, 21, of San Pablo as the shooter. Police said Nelson is a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black beanie, a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. Nelson remains at large.
