One person was shot during a party in Newark early Saturday morning, police said. Officers responded to a disturbance call for possible gunshots heard at a loud party on Long Street at 1:31 a.m., police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 20-year-old victim attempting to leave the scene with a facial injury from a gunshot.
The victim was transported to Eden Medical Center, was treated, and later released, police said. Numerous witnesses were interviewed but officers received conflicting information about how the shooting occurred. A significant number of the people present at the party were documented Norteno gang members, police said. Police said they currently have no leads due to a lack of cooperation from witnesses.
