A man was arrested following the third in a spree of bank robberies in San Francisco on Thursday afternoon, police said today. David Conrado, 48, allegedly robbed two banks within minutes of each other shortly after 2 p.m. at the Laurel Village Shopping Center in the 3400 and 3500 block of California Street, according to police.

In both cases, the suspect walked into the bank in disguise and  armed with a handgun, then demanded money from tellers and fled after receiving cash, police said.

A third bank robbery was reported about an hour later in the 1500 block of Van Ness Avenue. In that case, the suspect entered the bank wearing a ski mask and demanded money from the teller, according to police. After exiting the bank with the cash, the suspect was followed by a bank employee who pointed out the suspect to officers who were arriving at the scene.

The suspect, later identified as Conrado, was taken into custody by plainclothes officers and was positively identified by the victims and witnesses from all three robberies, police said. Evidence tying Conrado to the robberies, as well as more than $6,000 in cash, was in his possession at the time of his arrest, according to police.

Conrado was booked into county jail on suspicion of five counts of robbery, three counts of burglary and three counts of possession of stolen property, police said. Police are also investigating whether he may have been involved in other recent bank robberies in the city.
