San Leandro police are searching for a man who broke into a home Tuesday night and attacked a woman who was at home watching TV, police said. Officers responded to the 15200 block of Shining Star Lane at about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about an assault that had occurred at a home on that block.

Officers located a female victim, who had suffered cuts to her face and was bleeding heavily, police said. She was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said the woman had been watching TV in her bedroom when the suspect entered her home through a downstairs window, found her, and struck her repeatedly in her face and head with an unidentified object.

The woman escaped and screamed for help, and the suspect fled.  “The victim is truly courageous and had a strong will to survive to overcome a potentially deadly assault,” Lt. Jeff Tudor said.
