Oakland police are asking for help locating a suspect who allegedly fled a traffic stop, threatened officers and escaped an overnight search earlier this month, police said. Police identified the wanted suspect as Eid Luqman Hasan, 24, a black man who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, police said. Hasan was potentially injured when an officer fired at him as he fled on May 9. He fell to the ground after the shot, but then continued fleeing into a nearby yard, police said.
Officers made a traffic stop that day near the corner of Ney Street and Ritchie Street at around 7:30 p.m. As police were preparing to search the vehicle’s front passenger, the back seat passenger, later identified by police as Hasan, ran away. Police said they chased Hasan to the 7900 block of MacArthur Boulevard. During the pursuit, one officer saw him pull out a gun and fired at him. The suspect fell to the ground but then continued running into a nearby yard, police said.
Police established a perimeter in the area and a SWAT team responded to assist, however by the early morning the search was called off with the suspect still at large. Hasan may have sought or received medical attention, police said, or he may need it now. No officers were injured in the incident.
