The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Carmel Valley woman who was reported missing Tuesday afternoon. Janice Marasco, 53, was last seen around 1 p.m. Monday near her home in the 9500 block of Redwood Court, according to the sheriff’s office. On Tuesday, Marasco’s dog was seen wandering around the neighborhood and later found in front of the her home. Marasco was reported missing around 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Sheriff’s officials said Marasco is known to walk her dog to a nearby shopping center and elsewhere in the neighborhood, but that it is unusual for her to leave the dog unattended. Investigators are concerned for Marasco’s well-being because she suffers from early-onset dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and has been experiencing bouts of depression, according to the sheriff’s office. Today, the sheriff’s search-and-rescue team is scouring the area around Marasco’s home with the help of search dogs and the department’s mounted unit.
Marasco is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 125 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. Her front tooth is capped, and she may have been wearing tan clothing and glasses or contacts at the time of her disappearance, sheriff’s officials said. Anyone with information on Marasco’s whereabouts is urged to call the sheriff’s office at (831) 755-3722.
