A 28-year-old man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a group of males attacked and stabbed him late Saturday night in Watsonville, police said this morning. Police were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to Franich Park in the 1100 block of East Lake Avenue and found the 28-year-old man suffering from a significant wound to his lower abdomen. Officers determined that the victim and another male were walking through the park when they encountered a group of eight to ten males in a parking lot near Wagner Street and Vista Montana Drive, police said.
Police said the pair and the group exchanged words, and the group of suspects got into a minivan and a compact car and started driving after the two victims. The group of suspects caught up to the two males near the intersection of East Lake Avenue and Wagner Street, where the group of males got out of their cars and attacked the two victims, police said. One of the victims was able to get away and the suspects slashed the 28-year-old victim across his lower abdomen. Police said victim was taken to a trauma center outside of Santa Cruz County where he underwent emergency surgery and was last listed in stable condition. The suspects were still at large this morning.
