A 53-year-old San Jose man was arrested in Scotts Valley early this morning when police allegedly found him asleep in his vehicle with a loaded gun. At about 2:10 a.m., police found a vehicle pulled over on El Rancho Drive near Highway 17, according to Scotts Valley police. The vehicle was blocking a driveway and the driver appeared to be asleep, police said.
The man said he was driving back to Santa Clara County from a wedding in Pebble Beach when he became tired and pulled over to sleep. The man, later identified as Erasto Ortiz, was arrested for DUI. During a search of Ortiz’ car, officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the center console. Ortiz was booked at Santa Cruz County jail for DUI and possession of a loaded concealed firearm in a vehicle.
