* Arturo Mendoza Shot and Killed and Andres Rocha Shot and Injured in Las Lomas

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in the community of Las Lomas that left one man dead and another injured late Friday night. Deputies and firefighters responded to a report of a shooting at a party at 5 Gregory Road just before midnight, according to the sheriff’s office.

Arturo Mendoza, 24, of Watsonville, was found wounded and lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andres Rocha, 18, of Bakersfield, had been shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital in Watsonville and is expected to survive, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators believe the two men were confronted at the party and shot by unknown subjects.  No arrests were made.
