A 25-year-old man is in custody in connection with a shooting Wednesday morning that left another man critically injured, a police lieutenant said today. Police arrested Nicholas Humphrey on suspicion of attempted murder around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after a brief car and foot chase that ended in the area of Montana Street in Point Richmond, Lt. Bisa French said. Two hours earlier, police had found a man who had been shot multiple times in his parked car in the 2900 block of Andrade Avenue.
The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now expected to survive, French said this morning. When officers spotted a Land Rover that matched a description of the suspect vehicle in the shooting, they trailed the SUV, which was driven by Humphrey, French said. They attempted to stop the SUV near South 23rd Street and Cutting Boulevard, but Humphrey sped away, leading officers on an approximately 10-minute chase to Point Richmond, French said. French said Humphrey then crashed into several parked cars, got out of the Land Rover and fled on foot.Officers apprehended and arrested him without further incident and recovered a handgun, French said.
