Prosecutors plan to file misdemeanor DUI charges against Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey this afternoon in connection with an incident in which he was pulled over on the Bay Bridge last month. Heyward-Bey was arrested at about 2 a.m. on April 7 while driving east on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge, California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Tony Tam said.

He was driving a 2012 Range Rover and was observed traveling slightly above the speed limit and weaving, Tam said.An officer pulled Heyward-Bey over and arrested him on suspicion of DUI after he submitted to a chemical test, Tam said. He was “cooperative,” and was cited and later released, Tam said. Prosecutors plan to charge Heyward-Bey this afternoon with misdemeanor DUI and having a blood-alcohol content above .08, San Francisco District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman said.

Heyward-Bey is scheduled to be arraigned on May 31, Stillman said. His attorney, Ivan Golde, said today that Heyward-Bey plans to plead not guilty to the charges. “Darrius Heyward-Bey has been a model citizen…and has no prior convictions,” Golde said. “He’s been a good role model his entire career.” Heyward-Bey has played in the NFL for three years, all with the Raiders, who drafted him seventh overall in the 2009 draft. Last season, he caught 64 passes for 965 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs.
