A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Tuesday night after striking a parked car on Treasure Island and injuring three people, including an 11-year-old boy who was critically wounded, a San Francisco police spokesman said today. Officers responded at 9:27 p.m. to the 100 block of Avenue M after receiving a report of a car accident involving a serious injury.

Investigators determined that 38-year-old William Collister was driving north on Avenue M when he struck a car parked on the side of the road, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said. The impact pushed the parked car into a 31-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy who were standing outside the car throwing away trash, Fong said. The 31-year-old man suffered a cut to the back of his head and the 11-year-old boy suffered a head injury that is considered life-threatening, according to Fong.

A 9-year-old boy who was getting out of the parked car was thrown back into the car by the force of the crash. He complained of pain to his chest but is expected to survive, Fong said. All three victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, he said.Collister, a San Francisco resident, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was later booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, Fong said.
