Santa Cruz police have arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a Live Oak woman in Santa Cruz late this morning. At 11:52 a.m., officers responded to reports of a possible stabbing in the 300 block of Broadway, police said. Police found a 39-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds and she died at the scene, police said. A few minutes later, police arrested a 44-year-old San Francisco man at the intersection of Barson and Campbell streets, near where the crime had taken place, police said.
Police said they found the weapon they believe was used in the attack at the scene and closed down Broadway between Campbell and Ocean streets during the investigation. The relationship between the suspect and the victim and a possible motive for the stabbing are still unknown, police said. The name of the victim is being withheld until her next of kin are notified, police said. This marks the first homicide in Santa Cruz in more than a year, police said.
