The San Jose Police Department is currently investigating the City’s 12th homicide of 2012. On Saturday, April 28th, at approximately 9:25 P.M., San Jose Police Officers responded to the area of 6th Street / Reed Street (Lowell Elementary School) on a report of gunshots being heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers located the victim on Lowell Elementary School grounds suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:49 P.M.
Preliminary investigation into the shooting has revealed that the victim was in an altercation with unknown suspects near the school. The altercation spilled over onto school grounds and one of the suspects opened fire on the victim, striking him at least once. The suspects then fled the scene. No suspects have been identified or apprehended in this case. Detectives are exploring the possibility that the shooting was gang motivated.
