A man was shot and killed in West Oakland on Thursday night, an Oakland police officer said.Police responded to the shooting in the 1100 block of 34th Street, between San Pablo Avenue and Adeline Street, at 8:37 p.m., police said. A man was found there suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead, police said.No suspects have been identified in the shooting.

The death marks Oakland’s 40th homicide of 2012, and the third shooting death since Saturday.One person was killed early Wednesday morning about nine blocks away, near the corner of 40th Street and Lusk Street. Early Saturday morning, 15-year-old Shonte Daniels was killed near Arroyo Viejo Park in East Oakland. Police have not identified any suspects in the recent killings.
