* David Pugh and Gregory Woods were Arrested on Suspicion of Drug Possession and Auto Theft in El Cerrito

Two men on their way to the grocery store were arrested on suspicion of drug possession and auto theft in El Cerrito on Wednesday night, a police corporal said today. Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, an officer spotted someone driving a 1990 Acura Integra that had recently been reported stolen from San Leandro into the parking lot of a Safeway store at 11450 San Pablo Ave., police said. The officer stopped the car, searched the vehicle, and arrested the driver, Oakland resident David Pugh, on suspicion of car theft, police said.

Pugh was on probation for auto theft in Alameda County, according to police. His passenger, Gregory Woods, of Antioch, was arrested on suspicion of drug possession after the officer found him with ecstasy pills and heroin, police said. Both suspects were taken to the Martinez Detention Facility. The case has been turned over to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
