One person was killed and another injured in separate shootings in Oakland early this morning, an Oakland police officer said. Police responded to reports of shots fired and a man down at 3:35 a.m. near the corner of 40th and Lusk streets, about two blocks from the MacArthur BART station. A victim was found there suffering from a gunshot wound.

The person was transported to a hospital and later died. The death marks Oakland’s 39th homicide of 2012. Earlier this morning, at about 3 a.m., police responded to a shooting near the corner of 55th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland. A male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He was transported to a hospital in stable condition, police
said.
