A 19-year-old man was taken to a hospital after being shot in the backyard of his Salinas home in broad daylight on Monday, police said.The victim was in the backyard of the home in the 1200 block of Linwood Drive around 1:30 p.m. when an unknown male approached and shot him multiple times in the upper torso, police said. Upon hearing the shots, a 40-year-old man arrived at the scene and chased the shooter, who fired at him but missed, police said.
The suspect then fled north on Linwood Drive in a silver-colored Honda Accord that had been parked nearby, police said.Police arrived and found the 19-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, police said. The suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male in his late teens, with a thin build and light mustache. His getaway car had a partial license plate of 5YH, police said.Police say they are investigating the incident as gang-related.
