Police in Sausalito are trying to locate a prowler who attempted to enter a home through an unlocked door Sunday night, a police sergeant said early this morning.At about 10:10 p.m. Sunday, a woman reported that a man had tried to enter her house in the 100 block of Pearl Street, police said. The resident said she confronted the man after he opened an unlocked back door of the home and stood in the doorway.
When she asked the prowler why he was there, the man said he was looking for a friend and that the resident should lock her doors, police said. The man then fled the area on foot.Officers from the Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon and Novato police departments as well as Marin County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area Sunday night using a police dog but were unable to find the suspect.Police said the prowler is described as a black man who is estimated to be in his early 30s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds with short black hair.
