Police are investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another in Oakland this afternoon. The shooting occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Calaveras Avenue and Buell Street, a police officer at the scene said.A suspect or suspects shot into a red Chevrolet Camaro that was stopped near the intersection.
The driver of the Camaro drove away and crashed into a pole, the officer said.The passenger of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition as of this evening, according to police.
No suspect information was immediately available.The MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp of Interstate Highway 580 was closed and traffic on nearby city streets was blocked during the investigation. Police said the roads and off-ramp are expected to reopen to traffic by around 7:30 p.m.
