* Toddler Recuperating After Pit Bull Attack in Martinez

Published by on April 13, 2012

A 3-year-old girl who was seriously injured in unincorporated Martinez this morning when a pit bull attacked her is expected to survive, an animal services lieutenant said. The toddler was visiting her grandmother’s home around 11:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of Plum Street when a pit bull belonging to the family mauled the girl, said Lt. Cedric Williams-Cain of Contra Costa Animal Services.

She was treated for multiple puncture wounds and lacerations at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, Williams-Cain said.
The 7-year-old, approximately 50-pound male pit bull with no documented history of aggressive behavior, was taken into animal control officers’ custody. The animal will be quarantined for 10 days and then euthanized, following standard procedure after a violent attack occurs, Williams-Cain said.
