A 42-year-old Watsonville man was fatally shot while mowing a lawn outside a home in southern Santa Cruz County on Tuesday evening, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.Rafael Cendejas was killed in the shooting, which was reported at about 6:10 p.m. in the 300 block of Dutchman Road, sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy April Skalland said.

The neighborhood is in an area just north of Watsonville and east of Pinto Lake. Cendejas was mowing the lawn when someone got out of a car and opened fire. The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled, Skalland said. No arrests have been made and no suspect information was immediately being released, she said.
