A San Leandro man suspected of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend on Friday afternoon is expected to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Tuesday. A SWAT team forcibly arrested Edgar Alfonso Vasquez, 25, at about 2 a.m. Saturday at his home in the 1600 block of 162nd Avenue, where he was hiding in his bedroom, San Leandro police Sgt. Robert Sanchez said.
Vasquez refused orders to surrender, so the Alameda County sheriff’s K-9 unit was deployed, Sanchez said. The dog entered the house and bit Vasquez, and he was treated for minor injuries at a hospital, Sanchez said. Vasquez’s ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Annellie Marie Moreno, was found murdered on Friday afternoon.A friend of Moreno called police at about 4 p.m. that day to report that she had seen Vasquez stab Moreno in the 300 block of Best Avenue, Sanchez said.
Police responded and found Moreno slumped over in a parked car suffering from multiple stab wounds, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Through interviews with Moreno’s family and friends, police determined that Moreno and Vasquez had been in a relationship and had a child together but were in the process of breaking up, Sanchez said. The friend of Moreno who had witnessed the stabbing gave investigators Vasquez’s home address, Sanchez said.
