Police in San Leandro are investigating a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a convenience store early on Friday. Officers responded to a report of gunshots heard near E-Z Shop at 650 MacArthur Blvd. at about 1:40 a.m., according to San Leandro police. Arriving officers found blood, bullet casings and other evidence that a shooting had likely taken place in the parking lot, but no victims were located.

Police contacted local hospitals to see if any potential shooting victims had shown up in emergency rooms. While officers were interviewing witnesses, staff from Highland Hospital called to report that a 29-year-old man had arrived with a gunshot wound. An investigator interviewed the victim, who claimed he was shot in Oakland, not San Leandro, police said. Witnesses at the scene said there had been a confrontation between two men and at least one woman in two cars, possibly a silver Jaguar and a black car, police said. Police did not receive any other phone calls from hospitals reporting shooting victims.
