Oakland police reported two separate arrests this week that they said helped take three guns off city streets. Officers arrested a 26-year-old Oakland man, Eugene Molex, on suspicion of possessing two firearms when he walked into a Walgreens drugstore in the 3200 block of Lakeshore Avenue around 5:10 p.m. Monday.
He reportedly was seen with the two weapons inside the store, police said. Later this week, officers patrolling in the 6400 block of Foothill Boulevard saw a shootout between a man on foot and a man in a passing car at 4:53 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers arrested the suspect who was on the street and recovered a firearm, police said. The victim, who was a passenger in the passing car, was driven to the hospital on his own and is listed in stable condition, according to police. Oakland police Chief Howard Jordan said in a statement that getting guns off the street was important in that “it makes a significant impact on the quality of life for our residents.”
