Police have identified the victim of an early morning homicide in Oakland last Sunday, and said that while a female suspect was arrested near the scene, it was not on suspicion of killing the man. Lemuel Wilson, 51, was pronounced dead in the 1000 block of 88th Avenue at 3:02 a.m. Sunday after being shot and then run over by a car, police said. The suspect arrested at the scene was driving the car that ran Wilson over. She was arrested on charges unrelated to killing him, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said today.
But Wilson’s exact cause of death has yet to be determined, and police are waiting for a coroner’s report to determine whether the shots fired at the scene or the car running him over ultimately caused his death. “Shots were fired, she ran over him, he’s dead,” Watson said. Watson said the suspect’s name and the exact charge she was arrested for are not yet being released because the investigation is ongoing. She did not say if the suspect is believed to have any connection to the shooter, but said that several cars left the scene as police arrived.
