A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder with the use of a knife for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death at their Pittsburg home on Wednesday, a prosecutor said this morning. Abraham Duarte-Gonzalez, 20, was charged today in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 27-year-old female housemate whose name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Police were summoned on a call of an unresponsive woman Wednesday night to a home in the 100 block of Viking Way, where both the suspect and victim rented rooms, according to prosecutor John Cope. Several other people, including families, also live there, Cope said. When police arrived, they found the 27-year-old woman punctured with stab wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found Duarte-Gonzalez at the house and arrested him in connection with the stabbing. Cope declined to comment on a motive in the case, and did not know how long the suspect and victim had lived in the house together. Duarte-Gonzalez is being held in the Martinez Detention Facility on $1 million bail and is expected to appear in court this afternoon.
