A man was found shot to death early this morning in unincorporated Santa Cruz County near Live Oak,sheriff’s officials said. Emergency responders were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. to the Emerald Bay Apartments at 2500 Soquel Drive, where they found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound outside the complex’s “L” building.
Deputies later determined that the man had been shot across the street, near Dover Drive. The victim was still alive, and first responders tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene.Deputies were at the scene throughout the early morning collecting evidence, and closed off area until 8 a.m.
Detectives are continuing to canvass the area today, and are seeking witnesses to determine how and why the man was shot. Investigators have not yet identified a suspect in the shooting, and the victim’s name has not yet been released.Sheriff’s officials said they are in the process of scheduling a meeting to inform residents of nearby apartments about the shooting.
