A 24-year-old man was seriously injured in a stabbing outside a bar in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood early this morning, a police spokesman said. The stabbing was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. at Mission Street and Persia Avenue, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The victim was in the bar with friends when an altercation started outside, Esparza said. The victim walked outside and noticed that a female friend of his was about to get into a fight, and he confronted a suspect who looked like he was about to hurt the friend, according to Esparza.

The suspect and victim got into a physical altercation, during which the victim was stabbed several times with what appeared to be a folding knife, Esparza said. The victim then ran back inside the bar, and the suspects fled. The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that are considered life-threatening,

Esparza said. The suspect, described as an Asian man in his early to mid-20s who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and has black, spiky hair, fled with another suspect in what looked like a black Honda Civic that drove away south on Mission Street, according to Esparza. He had not been found as of this morning, Esparza said.
