A discarded safe was found in the parking lot of a Petaluma strip mall on Monday afternoon, police said. The safe was spotted around 4 p.m. in a shopping cart in the parking lot, located in the 2000 block of Lakeville Highway. The door of the safe had been pried off, and it was empty, police said. Police described the safe as a Sentry brand model No. 2206. Investigators believe the safe may have been stolen in a recent burglary, and are checking property records to see if it was reported missing.
