Alameda police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Monday evening that claimed the lives of a woman and a man who appeared to have been a former couple, according to police.  Around 6:35 p.m. police responded to calls of gunshots heard in the 2100 block of Alameda Avenue.  Arriving officers found a 30-year-old Alameda woman and a 36-year-old Oakland man suffering form gunshot wounds. The man’s wounds were apparently self-inflicted, according to police.

The woman succumbed to her wounds despite paramedics’ life-saving efforts and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. this morning, police said. Investigators said the man and woman apparently had previously been in a romantic relationship. The investigation is ongoing.
