Type of Crime/Incident: Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Attempted Murder
SUSPECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

City of Half Moon Bay, California: On Saturday, January 28, 2012 at approximately 11:19 PM, a group of people were leaving a wedding reception that had taken place at the IDES Hall on Main Street in Half Moon Bay. A group of young Hispanic males approached the victims and according to some accounts, one of the suspects asked the victims what gang they claimed. None of the victims are gang members. During the altercation, one or more of the suspects stabbed four victims. When deputies and EMS personnel arrived on scene, all four victims were immediately transported to the hospital. Although initially admitted to the hospital in critical condition, the victims have been released from the hospital and are still recovering.

Several potential suspects have been identified as young men who belong to a gang they themselves call “media luna norte”. This is a criminal street gang comprised of primarily young Hispanic males and females who live in or around the Half Moon Bay area.

On Friday, 2/10/12 at approximately 10:30 am, a 17 year old juvenile male was arrested by San Mateo County Sheriffs detectives for the attempted murder of the victims. The juvenile lives in the Half Moon Bay area and is known to be a gang member. He was booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center. .Due to the age of the suspect, no further identification can be provided. The case will be forwarded to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for review for prosecution.

The investigation is ongoing to develop further evidence and leads into the identity of other suspects and circumstances of this crime.
