A Richmond woman has been charged for the fatal stabbing of her husband’s girlfriend earlier this week, a prosecutor said. Crystal Birden, 32, was arraigned on murder charges in Contra Costa County Superior Court Thursday for allegedly stabbing 24-year-old Oakland woman Tiye Rebecca Freeman in Richmond on Tuesday, Senior Deputy District Attorney Harold Jewett said.
Freeman appears to have been romantically involved with Birden’s husband, according to the prosecutor. The two women got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight in the 300 block of Sixth Street. Birden used a knife she had concealed to stab Freeman, killing her, Jewett said. The Richmond woman is in custody and is set to return to court in Richmond for further arraignment on Feb. 16.
