A Berkeley police officer shot a man in Castro Valley after the suspect pinned another officer between two cars, according to an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. The shooting occurred at around 5 p.m. near Center Street and Grove Way, Alameda County sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. At least two Berkeley police officers were attempting to take a suspect into custody when the man pinned one of the officers between his vehicle and the officers’ unmarked car, Nelson said.

Nelson said that was when another officer shot the suspect. The suspect was taken to Eden Medical Center and his condition was not immediately known, Nelson said. The officer who was pinned between the vehicles was taken to a hospital with serious hand and leg injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Nelson said. Nelson said he did not know why the officers were pursuing the suspect.
