* Three men were arrested in Greenfield after deputies reported witnessing a drug deal

Three men were arrested in Greenfield early Sunday morning after deputies reported witnessing a drug deal, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. At about 12:50 a.m., officers were stationed in an area of Walnut Avenue that is a known location to buy drugs, according to the sheriff’s office.

A suspect approached a vehicle parked on the shoulder and was seen handing money into the car. Officers approached Luis Valdez, 22, of Greenfield, and found a bindle of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators contacted the driver of the vehicle — who was later identified as Mario Butkovic, 45,of Greenfield – and found methamphetamine, a digital scale, plastic baggies and $411, according to the sheriff’s office. Butkovic’s passenger, Kelley Hernandez, 40, was also found to be in possession of meth. The three men were arrested on various drug offenses and booked at Monterey County Jail.
