* Melvin “Stewart” King Arrested By Mendocino Sheriff’s Deputies for Alleged Elder Abuse of Betty Oneil in Gualala

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 1/23/12

On 01.22.12,at about 1248 hrs., Mendocino County Deputy Sheriff’s were called to the 37000 block of Glennen Dr., Gualala, for a report that Betty Oneil had been assaulted by her grandson, Melvin “Stewart” King. Upon their arrival, deputies were told that King had fled the residence on foot when he learned that deputies were on their way.

Oneil reported that King, who lives with her in an apartment attached to her residence, has been threatening and intimidating her to force her to give him money. This is reported to have been happening for an extended period of time and Oneil has given King several thousand dollars out of fear for her safety.

While a deputy was interviewing Oneil, King was located walking on Hwy 1 in the downtown Gualala area by another deputy. King was detained and subsequently arrested for violations of 520 PC (Extortion), 422 PC (Terrorist threats), and an additional charge of 368(C) PC (Elder abuse) is being sought. King was booked into the Mendocino County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
