San Leandro police are trying to catch a man-and-woman team who are suspected of committing seven street robberies in recent weeks. The suspects targeted victims walking alone on Bancroft, Estudillo and Joaquin avenues east of downtown between Dec. 26 and Jan. 7, police Lt. Jeff Tudor said.
The suspects, who are on foot, separate when they mark a target, Tudor said. He said in each incident, the female suspect approached a victim, said she had a gun, demanded and got a wallet or purse and fled the scene with her male partner. One of the victims saw a gun in the woman’s purse but police have not confirmed that she actually had a gun in all of the incidents, Tudor said.
Police said the woman is black and between the ages of 18 to 25, is between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, wore a head wrap and had a dark-colored purse that possibly conceals a gun. The male suspect is described as being black and between the ages of 18 and 25. He has a thin build and was wearing a cap or beanie. Police said the suspects have targeted both men and women, with the victims’ ages ranging from 18 to 60.
