Five people were arrested after police searched a suspected marijuana grow house in San Leandro on Tuesday afternoon, police Lt. Jeff Tudor said. Police searched a home in the 3400 block of Carrillo Ave. after a month-long investigation into a possible marijuana-growing operation, Tudor said.
They found 82 marijuana plants over 5 feet tall that are capable of producing 8 to 10 pounds of marijuana with an approximate value of $30,000, Tudor said. Police also found 2 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale; 7 grams of MDMA powder, which is used to make ecstasy pills; four semi-automatic handguns; two assault rifles, and $10,000 in cash, Tudor said. Van Nguyen, 26, of San Leandro, and Khoa Tran, 21, of Alameda, were arrested on suspicion of weapons violations and possession of drugs for sale. Three other people at the home were arrested on drug charges, Tudor said.
